Regular dental care is essential for the general health of our feline companions.
Did you know by the time they are 2-years-old, about 70% of cats already have early stages of periodontal disease? This condition is painful and can lead to tooth decay, tooth loss, infections and other problems. The good news: It is 100% preventable with proper care both at home and here, at our hospital. Call us at 250-475-2287 for more information on how we can help your cat’s teeth stay as healthy as possible.
We recommend cats get a dental exam and cleaning by a veterinarian at least once every year. Once every 6 months is even better. Remember, our pets age much faster than us so a few months is equivalent to a few years for them. With regular checkups, we can detect any problems early on, so they can avoid unnecessary discomfort and you can avoid unnecessary expenses.
Absolutely! It may seem daunting at first, but with some helpful techniques (that we are happy to show you), you and your cat will have a routine mastered in no time. It is best to start them while they are still kittens. You can begin with brushing their teeth 3 times a week, and then increase the frequency as you move forward. NOTE: Please make sure to use only products approved for pets, not people. Human toothpaste, for example, can be toxic for cats.
Although every patient is different, there are some general symptoms you can watch out for. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you notice any of the following in your feline friend:
