What type of surgeries do you perform at your clinic?

With our team of experienced veterinary surgeons and modern facilities, we can conduct a wide variety of procedures. Some of our most commonly performed surgeries include:

• Spay (ovariohysterectomy) and neuter (castration): Removal of the reproductive organs to eliminate risk for unwanted pregnancies, certain cancers and illness, as well as aggressive behaviours.
• Dental cleanings and extractions: All performed under general anesthesia. Please beware of businesses or groomers that offer “cosmetic” or “anesthesia-free” cleanings. These are unsafe and ineffective, only cleaning the surface of your pet’s teeth, leaving problems beneath the gum line masked and undetected.
• Histology – Biopsies: Removing growths, foreign bodies and other tissues/cells from your pet’s body. Depending upon placement, your cat may require light sedation or general anesthetic. Most samples are sent to the laboratory for testing and labelling, which will dictate your cats’ treatment schedule.
• Cystotomy: A surgical incision into the bladder to collect tissue samples or to remove stones. Performed under general anesthetic, with recovery time varying from case to case.
• Endoscope, Rhinoscope: Involves inserting a long and thin camera inside your pet to analyse their gastrointestinal or respiratory system, as well as to remove foreign bodies and help in performing other types of surgeries.

How can I prepare my cat for their surgery?

This will vary depending on the exact procedure your cat will have, as well as their unique health profile, lifestyle and environment. That being said, we usually request cats are fasted overnight. Their last meal should be served no later than 10:00 pm the night before their operation. Patients are allowed to drink water overnight.

What can I expect during my cat’s surgery?

We will try to update you as much as we can throughout the procedure and immediately after. If your cat requires a general anesthetic, they are monitored pre-, peri-, and post-surgery for their body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen level within their blood. They are given an IV catheterization to assist with proper hydration during the surgery, so you may see several shaved spots on your cat – which will grow back in a few weeks. Then, you will be given detailed post-op care instructions to help you throughout your feline friend’s recovery process. Depending on their case, they may be required to stay with us overnight for monitoring.
