Although every patient is different, it is generally safe for kittens to receive their first set of shots at around 6 to 8-weeks-old. They should get various injections every month or so until they are about 4-months-old.
Yes. Even if your cat never steps a paw outside the walls of your home, harmful diseases and parasites can still find them. You, things you bring in your home, other people, other pets and small animals (like insects) can all be vehicles of disease. At the very least, your cat should receive their core vaccines, which protect against rabies, panleukopenia, herpesvirus and calicivirus.
Definitely! After finishing their kitten vaccinations, cats should still be vaccinated all throughout their adult life to maintain their immunity. Depending on the vaccination, they should be vaccinated once per year or once every three years. Cats are classified as “overdue” for their vaccinations if their last shot was given more than 3 years ago. (This does not apply to the rabies vaccine which should typically be administered annually.)
